It’s Never Easy!
My brother from Kansas and I from Illinois are traveling to St. Louis today for the funeral of another Vincentian who started his journey to the priesthood with us at St. Vincent de Paul high school seminary in Lemont over 60 years ago. He died unexpectedly last week. And so my reflection is about dealing with loss, especially the loss of a loved one.
How do you handle the emptiness and the void created by the loss? You can’t replace it with anything special. You can’t figure the reasons of the loss. You probably figured out that it’s not going to be easy. For sure God will be a part of the solution, whether it’s being upset at Him for awhile and then asking Him for some help; or getting Him to find some distraction for you to get your mind off it a little bit. One thing I know….There is no easy solution for dealing with loss.
I pray that memories will help ease the pain. I hope finding some solution can be shared with others who are also experiencing the pain of loss. As for Reverend Paul Schneebeck, C.M., Dick and I will be sharing great memories and praying for his brother and sister. May he Rest in Peace!
