Fr. Dick’s Spiritual Reflection–05/25/2022
Ascension Thursday
Thursday is ASCENSION Thursday, a special feast in the Christian tradition. In many churches it is celebrated on the following Sunday, the 7th Sunday of Easter. The first Ascension must have been such a roller coaster ride of emotions for Mary and the Apostles. They experienced his horrible passion and death. Devastated at this but recovered their Joy at his Resurrection. They were happy to have Him with them. Then 40 days after Easter we believe He left them to return to His Father.
He told his disciples that He had to go back to the Father so He could send the Spirit to them. We will celebrate that on Pentecost Sunday. My reflection is this, I believe that the Holy Spirit is the love between the Father and the Son. This is what guides the church. This is what marks us as Christians. And as Jesus told us I know you are disciples of mine when I see how you love each other. We love each other when we do whatever we can to bring out the best in the other. Thanks for doing that for others. You prove that the Holy Spirit is alive in the world today.
