What More Can I Do?
Today is the feast day of St. Gertrude. I know so little about her but I saw where she was being taught in a Benedictine monastery about God and prayer when she was 5 years old. I guess many of us began our journey with God at that age. And here many years later we are still asked by God to be active in our announcing the Good News.
Today’s Gospel is such a great challenge. Jesus tells a story about how servants were to manage their masters accounts and how they could do even more, like doubling the account. It just reminds me of what St. Vincent DePaul said on his death bed. While the priests were praying for him, he struggled to say…”I could have done more.”
So that’s how I can meet the challenge of the gospel today…to do a little more. When I finish my daily prayers, I will spend a little more time praying for people I forgot. Or instead of my regular donation to the red kettles of the Salvation Army, I will give a little extra. And so on…
