St. Januarius
I always like to learn about the saints in our church. Yesterday was my feast day remembering St. Robert Bellarmine. He was such a great theologian and teacher and is the patron saint of catechists and teachers in general.
The picture is of the saint whose feast day is tomorrow, St. Januarius. He was also a saint from Italy. He was martyred for his faith and his death brought about a miracle that occurs every year in Naples. Three times a year the faithful gather in Naples Cathedral to witness this miracle. It is known there that a sample of his blood in sealed glass turns liquid from a solid mass. Legend has it that Januarius and his companion were thrown to the ears, but the animals failed to attack them. They were beheaded and Januarius’ blood was brought to Naples where the miracle has been witnessed since the 14th century.
I love the stories where God’s miracles continue to amaze the world. St. Januarius reminds me to always be on the lookout for God’s amazing activity. It’s happening every hour of everyday!
