The Vincentians
In a few days, I will celebrate a special day in the life of the Congregation of the Mission (The Vincentians). This is the order of priests and brothers that I have belong to for over 50 years. On this day 408 years ago, St. Vincent DePaul preached a parish mission in Folleville, France. From the event came the founding of the Ladies of Charity, a large international group serving the poor throughout the world. After that day on January 25 eight years passed and Vincent founded the Congregation of the Mission. Eight years later came the founding of a group of nuns called the Daughters of Charity. Vincent was a genius. What great gifts he gave the world. But this Sunday I will celebrate the beginning of the ministry a few of us continue some 400 years later. Rejoice in new beginnings! I’ll bet you have some to celebrate.
