Feast of St. Joseph
Today being the feast of St. Joesph the Worker gave me the opportunity to show one of my favorite paintings (I don’t know the artist). It captures a time that is not highlighted in the Bible. But that never seemed to bother St. Joseph. He seemed to be very comfortable being out of the spotlight. He just wanted to be a good husband and father…and a good carpenter. In the 19th century, the communists and the socialists designated Mary First as International Workers Day and Pope Pius XII added a Christian flavor by establishing a feast naming St. Joseph a patron of Labor…On May 1st.
So today I honor St. Joseph as one who worked hard. He did what God wanted and didn’t need to be recognized for that. This would be a good day to do something good that no one knows who did it, would be good day to work very hard at something or would be a good day to use the talents God gave you.
Wish I could have been in that carpenter shop when Jesus was there!
