Let’s Make a Difference
The picture is from a painting in the Sistine Chapel of the gospel today. It is the commissioning of the apostles by Jesus. What a powerful moment for those men. It really is the beginning of the church. Jesus asked the apostles to find the lost sheep and proclaim that the Kingdom of God is at hand. It seemed that He was asking them to see that people would long for Heaven.
I’m very much aware that God asked us to be the disciples who continue to build the church….To find the lost sheep….To proclaim the Kingdom of God is at hand….To instill a longing for Heaven. I find this to be an encouragement to make God present in the way we act and talk. To let people see that God is alive. But I’m aware that sometimes that is not easy and it takes hard work and effort. I told the people at our golf cart mass this past weekend a Scottish proverb, “You can applaud a jukebox but for an encore you owe another quarter.” Let this pic remind us of our being sent forth to make a difference.
