Fr. Dick’s Spiritual Reflection–04/21/2021
“The Search For Happiness”
This is the title of a book written by a Vincentian priest, Fr. Oscar Lukefahr who entered the Kingdom in 2015. Oscar wrote many small books on issues that helped so many people throughout our country. And this book was such a great inspiration during the Easter Season when we are asked to reflect upon Joy and Happiness. The heart of this book attempts to answer the question, “How can I be happy?”
I think about this question and I try to spend time thanking God for all the Blessings in my life that have brought me so much joy and happiness. When I think of all the places I have been, all the opportunities I have had, all the people who have been good to me, my family, friends and of course the priesthood, this question should be easily answered.
Of all the joys and happiness I have experienced and continue to enjoy, the one that stands out the most is the joy and happiness I receive from trying to make someone else happy. I hesitate to mention these times because it may sound like boasting or bragging, but the joy is so overwhelming when the elderly man in the nursing home smiles and thanks me for visiting him, or the Catholic who loves to attend mass and appreciates my homily. God blesses me and I thank Him. I am sure it the same with you…We are truly blessed.
