Fr. Dick’s Spiritual Reflection–2/12/2025
Preparing for the Lenten Season
History…something is always happening.
Today on this day, February 12, Abraham Lincoln was born. George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” was introduced. Bill Russell of the Boston Celtics had 41 rebounds in victory. And you received a reflection from Fr. Dick Gielow, CM.
My thought today is that in a couple of weeks we will begin another Lenten season. What will be different about this one? Or is it just another Lent. I know that every year I make some kind of resolution, and this year will be no different. I will reflect and then attempt to make a very good confession. I was thinking about a humorous remark Paul Anka made at a concert. He said that he went to confession and was so nervous that when he went in and began, he said to the priest, “you first”. Or I remember a story that Fr. Oscar Lukfahr, CM quoted about a little girl going to confession for her first time. Her mother asked her if she was prepared and she said yes, four sins: fought with her brother, got angry, disobeyed and lied to mommy and daddy. Her mother asked her what she lied about, and the little girl said, that is between her and the priest.
Confession is a great opportunity to let God know we need Him and that we trust in his promise of mercy and forgiveness. While He gives pardon and grace, He grants us a new beginning. Love that! My best to you as you begin another Lenten season. Know that it always ends with the joy of EASTER.
