Daughters of Charity

Tuesday was the feast of the Annunciation.  That was the special day Our Blessed Mother received a message from the Angel that she was chosen to be the Mother of Jesus.  On that day every year, March 25th, the Daughters of Charity renew their vows.

It is a time to pay special attention to them and the work that they do.  St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac founded them in Paris in 1633 to devote their lives to taking care of the poor, the sick, the orphans, and those alienated.  There are 13,000 serving in 96 countries.  Our family was blessed to have them at our parish in LaSalle, IL.  We were taught by them and our vocation to the priesthood was encouraged by them especially Srs. Frances and Ignatia.  We are deeply grateful to them for our formation but also for their continued work with the poor.  Many pilgrims who visit the chapel in Paris where the Blessed Mother appeared to St. Catherine realize the importance of this great community.

We honor them today as they once again renew their vows and continue to dedicate their lives to following St. Vincent and St. Louise.  Our world, our country, our church are so much better because of them.
