Fr. Dick’s Spiritual Reflection–8/14/2024
Assumption of Our Blessed Mother
Tomorrow is the feast day of the Assumption of Our Blessed Mother into heaven. It is the fourth glorious mystery when we say the rosary. There is nothing in Scripture describing this event, so we rely on trusting our Church for this doctrine. She was such a beautiful person and the model of a deeply faith-filled woman. We do well when we celebrate any feast of Mary.
It also reminds me of the importance of women in our world. I chose this picture above since it looks like a woman athlete. We saw in the Olympics the power of women in sports. Sometimes we can get the impression that sports are for men and we just allow women to participate so as to look like we are not chauvinistic. But we witnessed during these games their ability and talent. Of course, the beauty and power of women isn’t just in sports. We treasure them in our families, in our government and surely in our church. Where would we be without the woman who support the church with such faith?
As we honor Mary tomorrow, let us throw a few prayers in for the women in our world, in gratitude for all they have given us and for all that they are!
